When my girlfriend almost died, it was triggered by the physical exertion of walking. When they first released her, *they didn't let her walk first to see if she was okay.* Needless to say, she went back in immediately within the hour for the exact same thing.
My girlfriend and her father both have had to come here on several occasions (only due to distance). Each time, they've discharged them either too early or without any regard for them.
If you get admitted, however, I pity your poor soul.
I recently moved back to Sunrise and that would be the hospital I would go to but because of my past experience I am researching other hospitals nearby. When I was there yrs ago, my door was barely open and I woke with one of the male staff by my bed, in the dark, starring at me. It scared the heck out of me. I just started talking to him carefully (in the dark). Eventually he opened the door and left. I never told anyone, not even my family because I was an introvert back then. I definitely am more out spoken now. They took more double of the same tests and I was charged. I had so much much blood taken from me, it made no sense. On my last day there, I had a friend waiting on my side of the room while I was in the bathroom getting ready and she told me they had come in to take my to surgery. She told them it was a mistake, I was being released.
Slow. Never saw a Doctor. I think a nurse practitioner referred to herself as a provider. Otherwise, staff was very nice but sparse.
Now I'm picking up her father who came in for a swelling lump on his neck. They did several tests on the first day... including an x-ray on his chest for some reason. He's been here for 3 days without anyone doing anything since then. Nothing. Just sitting and waiting. Then they said, "just a cyst" and told him he was being discharged... again without a way to get home, He'll be charged for 3 days of a stay that didn't need to happen.
The emergency staff are as good as one could expect. They saved my girlfriend's life, and I will always remember that.
Last year my brother, whom has epilepsy, was taken there from nursing home from a fall he had. Hospital did not get his antisiezure medications from the nursing home and the fall then turned into close to death experience. As a result my brother was in and out of conscienceless while there. They sent him back to nursing home. But he was doing poorly. My father finally moved him to Florida Medical Center where they were finally able to stablize him. There is NO FOLLOW through with Westside Regional to confirm any needed medications. Seems like one department does not talk to other department. Some nurses care while others should change careers all together. Those do not belong around taking care of people. Now my brother is there again because of a bout with pneumonia. And I am very fearful that he will NOT survive staying in that hospital.
I cant say I ever want to go back to that hospital and after all these years seeing only 3 stars only confirms it.
I will never go back there again!!
I have now been here two different times for two totally different reasons & both times have been completely AWFUL!! If you go there, expect to be treated like you don't really exist.. The first time I went there was for a sprained finger & the bill came out to almost $4,000.. All they gave me was a piece of plastic to put on my finger & some tape. They also try to kick you out of there as soon as possible, even when you are having trouble breathing. :(
This hospital is only for getting every last cent from your insurance. Don't bother unless you have no other option.
They then tried to discharge her again *without walking.* I was furious at this point. When it was ascertained that the medicine they gave her worked, *she had to walk herself out.*
They've discharged her before and made her wait in the lobby while they called a cab that never came. That has happened twice.
In another instance, she underwent exploratory surgery (and an appendectomy just because). She waited for two days, but the doctor never came to discuss the results of the procedure. Nevertheless, they tried to kick her out. I had to call several people to let them know that she was never told anything. The nurse's response? "She had an appendectomy and she can walk now." No mention of the *actual reason she was there.* Also not to mention that she was only hobbling to the bathroom without nurse assistance because they wouldn't come. Did I mention that, on the first day, they didn't even give her the nurse call button? Oh! The best part! She developed a painful cough along with her roommate. The doctor (when he could finally be persuaded to stop by) said he wanted to keep her longer to make sure it's not serious. They discharged her 30 minutes later. No one on the staff knows what's going on with the patients care.
